Every part of the house has its function, and there shouldn’t any weak link, One of the most primary segments would be the roof. Without a sturdy roof, our humble abode would not last for weeks. Relying on the quality installation of the roof alone does not determine its life-span. That is why roofers also offer a maintenance package or services to their clients.
If you are on a tight budget and a roof inspection may be out of your allocation, you could still check it yourself if it needs replacement. Below is a list of signs to check if your roof truly needs to be changed.
1. Recognizing 3C’s in your shingles
These are curling, cracking, and cupping of tabs. If one of these is present on your roof, then it is time to redo your roof. Common causes of cupping and curling could be the signs of aging or wearing from the weather. Meanwhile, cracking takes place when shingles lose its volatiles because of evaporation, thus the result of cracking.
2. Missing patches and granules
Asphalt shingle is popular among most homeowners. It is cost-effective, durable, easy to maintain, has various styles to choose from, and easy to maintain. But, due to weathering, asphalt shingles could lose its granules. If there are a lot of loose granules in your drain, then you should have your roof checked.
Granules help keep the roof from harsh weather, and without the granules, sun and water could easily cause roof leaks and deterioration.
3. Dingy and wet wood shingles
If you are using wood and you notice that your shingles are dirty, wet, and mossy. It just means that your shingles are no longer doing their job of keeping away moisture from your roof, and water condensation trapped in shingles can damage and destroy your roof and attic.
4. Leaks and holes in the attic
Why wouldn’t you replace your roof if you are already experiencing leaks in your attic? It may be an issue of replacements in flashings, but other than that, it could also mean holes in roof leaks. Water can be a factor that could cause damage to your home. Even if you use durable and waterproof materials, over time, it could still decline and cause damages to your house. Securing a daily check to your roof could save you from costly repairs over time.
5. Energy bills are higher
A higher energy bill could be a cause of numerous cases. It could be from the impulsive use of electricity or for some other reason. But, if you already saw the sign listed above on your roof, then it is most likely the one causing your energy bills to be higher. A leaky roof could compromise the structural integrity of your house and cause more problems than higher electricity bills. Read more about the dangers of leaking roof here.
